CABBAGE -- COUNTRY STYLE | |
1 med. or lg. head cabbage Salt & pepper to taste 2 c. water 1/4 lb. bacon or bacon grease left from breakfast Optional: Potatoes enough for your family, cut into halves or quarters Let bacon or grease boil in water while you cut up your cabbage. If it is slab of bacon let it cook about 45 minutes before you put your cabbage in. Cut up your cabbage to suit you. I cut mine in quarters then cut it about 1 inch thick across. Put cabbage in pot with potatoes on top. Cook until cabbage is tender and you can stick potatoes with a fork. Do not overcook cabbage. Serve with "Down Home Country Corn Bread" or "Almost Country Biscuits." |
