FIG CAKE 
1 c. boiling water
1/2 lb. dried figs, chopped
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour

Pour boiling water over figs and raisins in bowl. Add baking soda, stir and let cool. Cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Add spices, lemon juice and vanilla. Combine with fig-raisin mixture, add flour and mix to blend. Place batter in 9 inch well greased baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
