MOTHER'S FILLED OATMEAL COOKIES 
5 c. rolled oats
1 c. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix the first five ingredients together, and add the last two ingredients to the mixture and mix well. Roll the dough between 2 wax papers. Cut and bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

DATE FILLING:

2 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. lemon juice or vinegar
1/2 c. water

Bring to boil and cool. Fill a little date mixture on each cookie. Makes 36 servings.
