BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers, do not peel
3 lg. white onions, chopped
2 lg. bell peppers, chopped (remove seeds)
3 garlic cloves
1/3 c. ice cream salt
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. apple cider vinegar (5% acidity)

Do not peel cucumbers. Slice about 1/4 inch thick. Add onions, bell pepper and sliced garlic cloves. Add salt; cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly.

Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture in large pot. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.
