BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers (med. size)
6 med. white onions, sliced
2 chopped green peppers
3 cloves garlic
1/3 c. salt
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar

Do not pare cucumbers. Slice them thin; add onion, pepper, and whole garlic cloves. Add salt and cover with aluminum foil. Lay crushed ice on top of foil to cool mixture. Let stand for 3 hours, then drain.

Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture. Heat to boiling. Sterilize 4 quart or 8 pint jars. Squeeze cucumber mixture, fill each jar and seal in hot jars.
