BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gallon sliced cucumbers
1/3 c. pickling salt
6 med. white onions
2 bell peppers
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
3 c. red vinegar
3 cloves garlic
5 c. sugar

Slice cucumbers, onion, pepper and whole garlic. Add pickling salt and cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly; let stand 3 hours. Remove garlic and drain well. Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot jars. 8 pints.
