GINGERBREAD MEN | |
1 c. butter 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 egg 1 c. dark molasses 2 tbsp. vinegar 5 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. allspice 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cloves Confectioners' sugar Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Cream butter and sugar, add egg; beat well. Stir in molasses and vinegar. Mix well. Add dry ingredients to molasses mixture. Chill dough about 3 hours. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut with gingerbread man cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet about an inch apart. Bake in 375 degree oven for 6 minutes or until crisp. Cool completely. Decorate with confectioners' sugar mixed with a small amount of water. Frosting should be rather thin. Makes about 8 dozen cookies, 4 1/2 inches high. |
