APPLE FLOAT 
4 egg whites
1 qt. applesauce, sweetened to taste
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Nutmeg to taste

In separate bowl beat egg whites until stiff. Fold egg whites into applesauce, lemon juice and nutmeg and chill and serve.

My Mom also made this and I have her recipe - 2 egg whites and 2 cups of applesauce. She served it with cold custard which she made often for serving with pound cake or jello. I assume she made the custard with the egg yolks. It is similar to the French floating island, but those meringues do not have applesauce and they are poached in hot milk that is then used to make the creme anglais or custard.
