TAFFY BARS 
1/2 c. shortening or butter
1/3 c. light molasses
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. nuts (if desired)

Heat molasses and shortening to boil - stir in brown sugar. Beat egg - add to molasses mixture - beat until fluffy. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bake in 9 x 9 inch pan at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Frost with lemon frosting.
