BOILED RAISIN CAKE 
1 egg
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 3/4 c. flour
1 c. stewed raisins added while hot

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and mix smooth. Blend flour, spices and soda. Alternate these dry ingredients with the milk to the sugar mixture. Stir in the hot (drained) stewed raisins and immediately pour the batter into a 9 x 9 greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees until the center springs back to touch.

Ice with a vanilla butter powdered sugar icing.

This cake is more moist after it stands a day. Keeps well.
