ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR CAKE 
1 c. shortening (half butter)
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. flavoring
4 eggs
1 1/2 or 1 3/4 or 2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 2/3 c. sifted Gold Medal flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Use three round 9 inch layers (1 inch thick) or two round 9 inch layers (1 1/4 inch thick) or an 8x12 inch oblong cake (2 inch thick) or an 8x12 inch oblong cake (2 inch thick). Bake layers 30 to 35 minutes, bake oblong 40 to 45 minutes in 350 degree oven.
