ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla (or 1 vanilla and 1 lemon extract)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat between each addition. Add vanilla and then alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk. Put batter into a greased tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees until light golden brown, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool. Remove from pan. Serve.
