RYE BREAD AND BUNS 
1/4 c. soft shortening (butter)
1 tbsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. dark molasses

Heat on low heat just to melt, then add 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and cool slightly. While the above mixture is cooling, set in a large bowl: 2 pkgs. dry yeast 1 tsp. sugar

Add 4 cups white flour to yeast mixture. This will be a soft dough. Now add cooled molasses mixture. Add 3 cups rye flour and mix well. Add 5 cups white flour; knead. Let rise until double in bulk. Shape into 4 loaves or into buns. Let rise until double again. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes - loaves. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes - buns.
