GINGERBREAD WITH SAUCE | |
1/2 c. shortening 2 tbsp. sugar 1 egg 1 c. dark molasses 1 c. boiling water 2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon Mix the shortening, sugar and egg. Blend in the molasses and water. Sift together and stir in the soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and flour. Beat until smooth. Pour into well greased and floured 9 inch square pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Serve hot with a fruit sauce--lemon or orange. |
