BEER CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. dates, chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 (12 oz.) can beer

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add sifted dry ingredients and beer. Stir in by hand, dates and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees, 1 hour and 15 minutes in greased pan. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
