3 3/4 c. granulated sugar 1 1/4 c. white Karo syrup 1 c. water 1 tsp. oil flavoring of your choice 1 tsp. food coloring powdered sugar, sifted Cook sugar, syrup and water in saucepan to 300°F on candy thermometer. Remove from heat. Add coloring and flavoring. Stand well back from pan so as not to inhale fumes. Pour quickly into 12 x 15-inch shallow pan that has been heavily filled with sifted powdered sugar. Begin cutting with scissors as quickly as you can lift a corner. Place pieces separately on wax paper that has been lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar. Seal in a tight container when completely cool. (Be sure to use oil flavoring, usually found at the drugstore.) |
