SAUSAGE ROLL | |
1 med. green pepper, chopped 1 lb. sweet Italian or smoked sausage (chopped, bite-size) 1 med. onion, chopped 12 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded 1 egg 1 tbsp. water 2 tbsp. sesame or poppy seeds 1 loaf of frozen bread dough, thawed In large skillet over medium heat cook green pepper, onion and sausage about 10 minutes. With slotted spoon, remove sausage mixture from skillet into a large bowl. Allow to cool 20-30 minutes. On a lightly floured surface roll out dough into 15 x 12 inch rectangle with short side facing you. Sprinkle cheese over the right 2/3 of dough to within 1/2 inch of edges. Spoon sausage mixture evenly over cheese. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bring left third of dough over half of the filling, lift folded section over remaining filling. Place seam side down on a large greased baking sheet. Press ends together; pinch to seal; tuck under roll. With sharp knife cut 4 slits in top of roll. In small bowl, beat egg with water. Brush over surface of dough. Sprinkle with seeds. Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes; cut into 1/2 inch thick slices. Makes 14 servings. |
