BLIND DATE CAKE 
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 pkg. (8 oz.) pitted dates, chopped
1 c. boiling water
1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate bits
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and soda together. Combine dates and boiling water; stir until blended. Cool.

Combine and mix until blended the sugar and shortening; add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in flour mixture with date mixture. Blend well after each addition. Put in 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate bits and nuts on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. (Needs no frosting.)
