1 1/2 c. water
1 c. dates, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/3 c. sugar
1 c. chocolate chips

Boil 1 1/2 cups water in medium pan. Soak dates and 1 teaspoon baking soda in hot water.

In a mixing bowl, cream 1 cup sugar and 1 cup butter. Add 2 eggs and beat well. Add flour, salt and remaining soda. Pour into a 9x13 inch pan sprayed with Pam.

Sprinkle topping over batter and bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes until done.
