APPLE CRISP 
1 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 c. rolled oats
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
4 c. chopped, peeled apples
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine first four ingredients. Cut in butter, until crumbly. Press 1/2 of the mixture into a 9-inch square pan. Cover with apples. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and vanilla. Cook and stir until thick and clear. Pour over the apples. Sprinkle with the remaining crumbs.

Bake at 350°F for about an hour or until the apples are tender.

Yield: 8 servings.
