BEST OATMEAL COOKIE 
1 1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. white sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
3 c. oatmeal
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Heat oven to 375. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, soda, salt and spices. Add this to first mixture mixing well. Stir in oatmeal and raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-9 minutes for a chewy cookie, or 10-11 minutes for a crisp cookie.
