CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. butter
1 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Red food coloring
1 egg white, slightly beaten
Red decorating sugar

Cream butter and powdered sugar. Beat in egg and extracts. Combine flour and salt with butter mixture. Divide in half. Tint 1/2 of dough with red food coloring. Chill dough. Roll, with hands, 1 teaspoon white dough and 1 teaspoon red dough into strips about 4 inches long. Place strips side by side and twist lightly, then curve into cane shape.

Brush tops lightly with egg white and sprinkle with red sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
