1 c. Squeeze butter 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. flour 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces 1/2 c. finely chopped peanuts or pecans Combine butter and sugar. Blend in egg and vanilla. Add flour; mix well. Spread into ungreased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch jelly roll pan. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces and nuts; press lightly into batter. Bake at 300 degrees, 35 to 40 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Cool, cut into bars. VARIATIONS: Substitute 1 cup toasted shredded coconut for chocolate pieces and nuts. Substitute 1 cup mixed diced candied fruit for chocolate pieces and nuts. Combine 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar and 2 tablespoons milk; drizzle over bars immediately after baking. Substitute 3/4 cup chopped pitted dates and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts for chocolate pieces and nuts.
