LEMON BREAD | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt Peel of 1 lemon, grated 1 c. sugar 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1/2 c. milk 1/2 c. chopped nuts GLAZE: 1/4 c. sugar Juice of 1 lemon Cream the shortening with sugar; mix in egg. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Alternately add the flour mixture and the milk to shortening mixture, stirring constantly. Mix in nuts and lemon peel. Bake in greased 5 x 9 inch loaf pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour. GLAZE: Combine the sugar with lemon juice. Poke a few holes in the top of the loaf and pour the glaze over. |
