POPPY SEED, ONION AND CHEESE
BATTER BREAD
 
1 1/2 tbsp. poppy seeds
2-3 tbsp. dehydrated chopped onions or 3 med. green onions, chopped
1 tbsp. dill weed; optional
1 c. grated Swiss cheese
2 tbsp. wheat germ; optional
2 c. flour or 1 c. white and 1 c. whole wheat flour
2 eggs or 2 egg whites
1 c. buttermilk
1 pkg. dried yeast
1 tbsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Mix dry ingredients including yeast, seeds, etc. Stir in cheese and warm buttermilk to 100-105 degrees. Beat in eggs slightly. Add warm buttermilk and mix well. Pour into greased loaf pan. Let rise about 30-60 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Can brush with melted butter last 15 minutes of baking.
