HOOSIER PEANUT BARS 
Sift:

2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream 1/2 cup shortening.

Add gradually:

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar

Mix well.

Blend in:

2 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla

Add 3 tablespoons cold water alternately with dry ingredients. Dough will be very stiff. Press dough into 2 greased and floured 8x8x2 inch pans.

Sprinkle 1 (6 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate bits over dough and press in gently.

Beat 2 egg whites until foamy. Gradually add 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar and beat until stiff. Spread over chocolate bits.

Top with 3/4 cup chopped salted peanuts.

Bake in slow oven 325 - 350 degrees, 30 to 35 minutes. Cut into bars or squares while warm.

If desired bake in 15x10 inch pan.
