APPLE - NUT SQUARES 
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. Crisco oil
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. all-purpose flour
3 c. peeled, chopped apples
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. chopped pecans
Topping

Combine sugar, oil, eggs, soda, flour, apples, vanilla, and pecans; mix well. Spread evenly in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Spread Topping evenly over top. Cool and cut into squares. Yields 3 dozen squares.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 c. evaporated milk

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Place over low heat and bring to a boil; cook 2 minutes. Yield: About 1 3/4 cups.
