BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
2 1/2 doz. cucumbers
1/2 doz. onions
2 tsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. celery seed
1 tbsp. turmeric
1 qt. vinegar
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. salt

Cover when you put ice and salt on cucumbers. Slice cucumbers and onions, cover with salt and ice. Let stand 25 minutes or more. Drain and squeeze all water that collects. Have vinegar, sugar and spices smoking hot. Put cucumbers and onions in, do not boil, let get hot through and through. Seal in hot jars.
