WATERMELON PICKLES 
Watermelon rinds

SYRUP:

1 pt. vinegar
7 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. oil of cinnamon
1/2 tsp. oil of cloves

Boil rinds until tender, but not too soft. Add a little salt, then drain and make the syrup. Boil and pour over the rinds. Let stand 24 hours; reheat syrup and pour over rinds again. Let stand 24 hours again. The 3rd day reheat the syrup together with rind. Put in sterilized jars and seal.
