CHERRY WINKS 
36 Maraschino cherries, cut in half
1 c. shortening
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour
1 egg
1 1/4 c. pecans, finely chopped

Cream shortening and cream cheese. Add sugar. Beat until light and fluffy, add egg and almond extract, beat well. Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to above, beating well. Chill 1 hour. Shape dough into balls about 1 inch, roll in pecans. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press cherry into center of each cookie. Makes 6 dozen. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
