NONNA'S CHOCOLATE COOKIES | |
12 eggs 8 oz. unsweetened chocolate 1/2 lb. butter 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. ground cloves 4 tsp. baking powder 8 c. flour 1 c. citron 2 c. chopped walnuts Beat eggs. Add sugar and beat well. Melt butter and chocolate over low heat. Add to egg mixture. Sift together flour, baking powder and spices. Gradually add egg mixture to flour mixture. Add citron and walnuts and mix well. Allow to rest. Shape into roll about 1 inch high and 2 inches wide and slice on an angle into 1 inch pieces. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 7 or 8 minutes. Cool. FROSTING: 2 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. cocoa 1 box 10x sugar Coffee or milk to spread To frost, melt butter and add cocoa and 10x sugar and enough milk or coffee to make thin syrup. Dip each cookie and allow to dry on waxed paper for several hours. These are a family Christmas tradition our mouths water for all year. |
