CHOCOLATE COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 well-beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 (1 oz.) squares melted chocolate
1 2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sour milk
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Mix dry ingredients and then wet. Drop by spoons 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Frost while warm.

FROSTING:

6 tbsp. cocoa
6 tbsp. hot coffee
6 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. powdered sugar (add gradually)

Beat until smooth. Frost cookies. Frosting, optional.
