BLACK BOTTOM PIE | |
2 tsp. gelatin 1/4 c. cold water 3 egg yolks 1 c. milk 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 3 egg whites Sprinkle gelatin over cold water. Make custard of egg yolks, milk, sugar and salt. Stir in gelatin. Divide this mixture in half. To one part add 1 1/2 squares of chocolate melted and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. To the other part add 1/2 tsp. vanilla. When cool fold in egg whites, beaten stiff, half into each mixture. When mixture begins to thicken, pour chocolate part into pie shell and then cover with vanilla flavored custard. Top with thin layer of sweetened whipped cream and sprinkle with shavings of unsweetened chocolate, if desired. |
