AUNT JANEY'S BROWN BREAD | |
2 1/2 c. water 3 or 4 tbsp. molasses 1 1/2 c. milk 1 stick butter 6 tbsp. sugar 2 tbsp. salt 1/2 c. lukewarm water 4 tbsp. or 4 little pkg. yeast 5 c. whole wheat flour 5 or 6 c. white flour Heat water, dissolve sugar, molasses, and butter. Add milk. Add 5 cups whole wheat flour. Beat until it sheets. In 1/2 cup lukewarm water, add 4 tablespoons or 4 little packages of yeast. Add 2 tablespoons salt. Mix. Add 5 to 6 cups white flour to make dough. Knead until satiny. Place in greased bowl and let rise. Shape into loaves and let rise. Makes 4 loaves. Bake at 375 to 400 degrees for 30-35 minutes. |
