CHOCOLATE-CARAMEL BROWNIES | |
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels 2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided 1 (18 1/2 oz.) pkg. German chocolate cake mix 3/4 c. butter, softened 1 c. nuts, chopped 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine caramels with 1/3 cup of milk in top of double boiler. Heat, stirring constantly until caramels are melted. Remove from heat and put aside. Combine cake mix, 1/3 cup milk and butter. Beat with mixer until firm. Stir in nuts. Press half of cake mix into well-greased 9x13-inch pan and bake for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked portion. Cover chips evenly with caramel mixture. Sprinkle remaining cake mixture on top. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Cool and chill for 30 minutes before cutting into squares. May prepare ahead. Freezes well. Yield: 35-48 squares. |
