HEATHER'S APPLE COBBLER
You will love this fool-proof, somewhat traditional version, easy to make, crowd-pleaser apple cobbler recipe! I have tried many over the years, and found myself having to modify several steps/ingredients to suit my taste.

Filling:

6 cups green apples (peeled/sliced)
3/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup hot water
1-1/2 tablespoon butter

In a large bowl, combine all filling ingredients (except butter), gently in a toss-like motion. Pour this mixture into a pie dish, or square baking dish that is lightly buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray.

Now, place butter on top of filling in the center.

Topping:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg

Prepare topping by mixing all topping ingredients in a separate medium bowl.

Mix with a spoon until batter is smooth. Drop batter on top of the filling with a spoon, as evenly as possible.

The batter will spread while being cooked.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.

Serves 6.

Made your recipe (first time) and it was excellent. The only thing I added to the topping was a 1/4 cup of water. I've sent it to a lot of my friends. THANK YOU :-) from Canada.

Most difficult part was peeling the apples! Very straight forward instructions, and a huge hit at Thanksgiving.

Very delicious and addictive. Used 1/2 cup of sugar in the filling instead of 3/4 but still find it very sweet. This will be my apple cobbler recipe from now on.

This is GREAT :-) try it!
Easy to make, and always a success.
I'm from Denmark, but have visited the States many time - and this comes closest to what I remember it should taste like :-)

Fantastic recipe. A big hit with family and friends.

The key is to use good quality butter and to make sure the butter is truly room temp.

Good flavor and all, but this is not a batter topping that spreads over the top of the cobbler. Might try again and add milk to the topping until it is a smooth batter. BTW I even softened the butter and beat it with the egg before combining.

Like some of the others commenting here, I found the topping too dry and crumbly. I was expecting something more like a cake batter. After adding an additional egg and one quarter cup of milk it was fine though. I will make this again.

I loved this recipe. Yes, the topping was more crumbly but I liked it this way. It was sweet but not too sweet. Will definitely make it again. Thanks Heather.

I rated this 5 stars cause it is delicious and fast and easy. It didn't seem right while making it (the topping) but it was awesome! Didn't do as well using peaches. Maybe they are just too juicy. Have made several times. Don't change a thing. Thanks Heather!

I didn't know what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised. I did add one extra egg to the topping and it made all the difference in the world. Very good, thank you!

This is apple crisp not cobbler. Cobbler is a dumpling topping.

My husband and I loved this! I took into account other peoples comments and altered the batter portion slightly. I melted the butter and added a 2nd egg. It was perfect! Will definately use this recipe again!

This recipe was the best! Easy to prepare, you can use ingredients already in your pantry. I did make a few modifications though. I used 4 cups of sliced apples and 1 bag of frozen blueberries that I had in the fridge. I added 1 tsp. of vanilla into the apples, eliminated the hot water, and used cornstarch instead of flour. I think cornstarch makes the filling more clear, not cloudy and you don't get that "flour" taste. I also sprinkled extra fine sugar and cinnamon on top of the batter before putting it into the oven to bake. It turned out absolutely fabulous!!! This recipe is a keeper!

I just tried this. Apples were not cooked, and a little too sweet. The topping turned out fine after cooking. I will try this again but with less sugar and cook it longer.

 Cat (United States) replies:
You might need to try a different type of apple. Some apple's take longer and some take shorter times to cook.

This recipe is simple & deliciously tasty. I just made it a lil while ago && my boyfriend loved it... Only thing I did was take a tip and added the vanilla to the topping, and 2 eggs & the 1/2 cup of milk... Instead of the crispy taste it gives it a nice cakelike texture a bit.

This recipe was good, however I was looking for a more cakelike batter. Will use again but will add some sort of cream. Happy eating!!!!
