DATE (MATERNITY) BARS 
2 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

1 lb. dates, cut up
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. water

Cook filling until thick. Crumb first 6 ingredients. Put half of crumbs in buttered jelly roll pan. Spread filling on top. Cover with rest of crumb mixture. Bake until brown, about 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
