GRAMA CHAMP'S DATE BARS 
1 c. butter flavor Crisco
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 1/2 c. oatmeal (rolled oats if available)
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Date Filling

Mix thoroughly the Crisco and sugar. Sift together and stir in the flour, soda and salt. Stir in the oatmeal and mix thoroughly. Gently pat 1/2 the crumb mixture into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Spread on the cooled date filling. Flatten the other 1/2 of the crumb mixture and place on the date filling, patting lightly.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes, until lightly browned. While still warm, cut into bars and remove from the pan. Quite moist, stores and travels well.
