HIDDEN TREASURE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. light brown sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves
3/4 c. canned applesauce
2 eggs
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. cut-up gum drops

Cream shortening with brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in lemon juice. Mix nuts and gum drops with 1/4 cup of flour. Sift remaining 1 1/2 cups flour with remaining dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients alternately with the applesauce to creamed mixture. Stir in gum drop mixture.

Pour into a wax lined 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake near center of oven until done. Cool in pan on cake rack for 10 minutes, then remove from pan. Frost while still warm with lemon glaze.
