DAWN'S APPLE PIE
STREUSEL:

1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
Speck of salt
1/2 c. cold butter
1/2 c. coarsely chopped walnuts

FILLING:

4 lg. apples
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1 c. heavy whipping cream
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg
1 unbaked 10" pie shell

In food processor, mix the first 6 streusel ingredients. Add the butter and process until crumbly. It should look dry-don't over process. Add the nuts, then set aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples. There should be about 4 cups. Place the apples in pie shell. In a small bowl, mix the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Beat the egg in a medium bowl, add the cream and vanilla. Add the sugar mixture to the egg mixture and blend. Pour over the apples. Bake for 20 minutes. Sprinkle streusel over the top. Bake approximately 40 minutes longer or until the top puffs and is golden brown.
