CINNAMON APPLE PUFFS
4 to 5 med. apples
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. red food coloring
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Peel and slice apples and place in shallow 8 x 12 inch baking dish. Combine 1 cup sugar, water and food coloring in saucepan and boil 5 minutes; pour over apples. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into bowl; cut in shortening. Add milk, stirring to make a soft dough.

Drop by 1/2 spoonfuls on top of apples, making a dent in top of each mound of dough. Combine melted butter, 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon; place in each of the dents. Bake 25 to 30 minutes in a 425 degree oven or until apples are tender and dough is light brown.
