MOM'S SPECIAL CASSEROLE 
1 slice top of the round steak
1/2 lb. bacon
1 bunch carrots
1 onion
2 to 4 potatoes, depending on size

Line heavy pan with bacon. Cover with small strips of top of the round steak. Season with salt and pepper. Add a layer of thinly sliced carrots. Add salt and pepper. Add a layer of thinly sliced onions. Add top layer of very thinly sliced potatoes. Add salt and pepper. Cover tightly. Cook at low temperature for one hour or more. Check occasionally to be sure food is not sticking to bottom. Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of water if needed. If onions are omitted, add onion salt to each layer.
