I had a craving for some beef stew while pregnant but did not have 5-8 hours to wait for the slow-cooker....I found this recipe and it was delicious! I am not a huge fan of tomatoes in stew, so I substituted a can of french onion soup for the tomatoes, added a bit of dry onion soup mix and it came out fantastic:) Bonus-cook time was only 2 hrs! yay

I was looking for a stew recipe with just the minimum of ingredients, so I tried this one. I thought just using water would be too bland, so I did 1/2 beef broth and 1/2 water. The other change was to use pearl onions instead of regular onion and to thicken the juice with corn starch at the end, Wow! we loved it and next time I will make with reg. onion and water and I'm sure it will come out just as delicious. Great recipe, I encourage everyone to try!

We love it! We had a few cans of Beef in Juices. Here is what we did different:
-We skipped the "simmer for an hour" part (as it is pre-cooked)
-There is juice and fat included in the cans of Beef in Juices. so we added less liquid.
-We used beef broth instead of water
-We added one can of vegetarian beans because...we had them!
-Garlic salt instead of salt
-Our homemade canned tomatoes
-We topped it with a bit of fresh grated locatelli pecorino romano It was EXCELLENT but more of a soup then a stew!
We will make this again!
