1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt (opt.)
2 1/4 c. cake flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. water
3 egg whites, beaten stiff
1 square chocolate (bitter), grated

Sift flour once before measuring. Add baking powder and salt. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually; add vanilla. Add flour alternately with water. Add beaten egg whites and grated chocolate. Beat slightly. Bake in greased 9"x13" pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Frost with any chocolate or white frosting.
