MOM'S APPLE COBBLER 
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2 c. finely chopped apples

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Melt sugar in water in saucepan. Cut shortening into flour until it's like fine crumbs. Add milk and stir with a fork until dough leaves side of dish, turn onto a lightly floured board, knead until smooth.

Roll dough into a large rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples then sprinkle apples over dough. Roll up like a jelly roll. Cut dough into about 16 slices, 1/2 inch thick. Place in pan of melted butter. Pour sugar syrup over rolls. Bake 55-60 minutes in oven.
