PECAN PIE SURPRISE BARS 
CRUST:

1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 c. butter, (softened)
1 egg

Generously grease bottom and sides of a 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Reserve 2/3 cup of dry cake mix for filling. In large mixing bowl, combine remaining cake mix, butter, and egg. Mix until crumbly. Press in prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, until light golden brown.

FILLING:

2/3 c. of reserved cake mix
1/2 c. of firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 c. dark Karo corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 c. chopped pecans

While crust is baking, prepare filling by combining all ingredients (except pecans). Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour filling over partially baked crust. Sprinkle with pecans. Return to oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until filling is set. Let it cool. Cut into bars. Makes 3 dozen bars.
