"CORN BREAD" 
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. cornmeal
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. milk (good)
5 tbsp. shortening (like Crisco oil)

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Mix in cornmeal. Blend egg, milk and shortening until mixed. Add dry ingredients and beat smooth. Grease 8 x 8 inch pan, bottom only. Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes.
