APPLE TART WITH BERRY SAUCE 
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
4 oz. butter, well chilled and diced
1 tbsp. brandy (or milk)
4 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 egg, chilled
1 tsp. almond extract

TOPPING:

1 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. melted butter
1 tsp. cinnamon

1. In medium bowl sift together flour, salt, sugar and baking powder. Cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal.

2. In small bowl lightly beat egg, brandy and extract. Add to dry ingredients and stir with fork until mixture forms a ball. Press dough into 8 inch spring form pan. Press up sides of pan about an inch.

3. Arrange apple slices on dough. Brush slices with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar topping. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.

4. BERRY SAUCE:

1 c. red berries (strawberries, raspberries)
1/3 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. white wine
1 tbsp. fruit liqueur
1 tsp. lemon juice

Combine in blender. Puree until smooth. Pour over cake when ready to serve or serve on side.
