MERINGUE KISSES 
3 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract (optional)
Dash salt
1 c. granulate sugar
36 milk chocolate candies

In small mixing bowl beat whites with vanilla, cream of tartar, extract (optional) and salt until soft peaks form. Very slowly add 1 cup granulated sugar; beat until very stiff but not dry. Drop from tablespoon 1 1/2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press a candy into each cookie. With knife or narrow spatula, swirl top. bake at 275 degrees for 30 minutes. Immediately remove cookies to rack. Makes 36.
