MRS. ESTHER'S TEA CAKES 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 c. flour
1 egg
2 tbsp. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla or any flavoring desired

Cream butter until smooth; add sugar. Cream until smooth. Add egg and mix thoroughly. Mix all dry ingredients together. Add buttermilk to butter/sugar mixture. Then a heaping tablespoon at a time, add the flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Add vanilla.

Roll out on floured board and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 375 degrees or until light brown. To keep cookies moist, add several pieces of white bread to the cookie jar.
